Cyber Attack Disrupting IMF Email Accounts Revealed
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced that it had fallen victim to a cyberattack that disrupted 11 IMF email accounts.
International Monetary Fund (IMF) revealed an incident in which unidentified attackers compromised 11 of the organization's email accounts at the beginning of this year. According to the institution, the incident was detected in February, and it is currently conducting an investigation to understand the impact of the attack.
The IMF stated that it detected the attack on February 16 and that the investigation has "determined that 11 IMF email accounts were accessed." It also said, "there are no indications that other email accounts were accessed."
An IMF spokesperson confirmed to BleepingComputer that the organization uses Microsoft 365, but based on the investigation, it says "the incident did not target Microsoft."
