MailStore v24.2.1 - Hotfix Released
Update Available - Now Update to MailStore v24.2.1! Today, we released MailStore V24.2.1, a fix for both MailStore Server and MailStore Service Provider Edition, which resolves a potential issue with recovery records in V24.2.
Background
In the previously released version 24.2, it was necessary to manually update the archive database to Firebird 4. No recovery records were written until the manual update was performed. However, the proper archiving of emails is still guaranteed as long as the software is used correctly.
What Is the Purpose of Recovery Records?
MailStore stores email metadata in archive database. In addition to the archiving date and the email's folder, this metadata contains more information that allows users to quickly navigate and search within an archive. Metadata is also stored in records known as recovery records. Recovery records are stored in files on the file system along with the email content. Metadata is read using only the database. If the database is damaged, it can be recovered from the recovery records.
The Fix Ensures That Recovery Records Are Fully Recorded
Our fix ensures that recovery records are created as usual and also covers the period between the manual update to Firebird 4 for archive databases when upgrading to MailStore version 24.2 or 24.2.1. This means that the database can be easily recovered from recovery records.
Notes on Using MSSQL and PostgreSQL Databases
For archive repositories using MSSQL or PostgreSQL databases, recovery records are fully filled in version 24.2. These are not affected by the issue. The fix only affects archive repositories using Firebird as the database.
