Microsoft is planning to retire the Exchange Web Service (EWS) protocol for Exchange Online. This decision affects not only MailStore but also all companies using EWS. This will necessitate alternative access to Exchange Online mailboxes in the future. More details about the retirement of the EWS protocol can be found in the migration article.

We are offering a conversion tool to help you transition from profiles based on EWS, which will be shut down in the future.

Accessing the Conversion Tool

If your MailStore Server installation is using a Microsoft 365 profile, you should see a warning message in your panel. Clicking on this message will open the Microsoft 365 Profile Conversion Tool.

The conversion tool will provide a general overview of all profiles connected to Microsoft 365. It offers options to archive profiles, export profiles, and convert these profiles into a version that can be used after EWS is retired.

The grid will display profiles categorized into three different types:

  • Automatic: These profiles need to be converted and should be convertible through this tool. Click the Test Conversion button to check if a conversion will create a usable profile. It will perform a temporary conversion and test the connection in that profile. When you click Convert, a test will also be run, and if it is successful, the profile will be saved.

  • Unsupported: These profiles will no longer be supported when EWS is disabled. Microsoft has not yet provided an alternative to EWS. Open Folders access will no longer be supported by Microsoft.

  • Archived mailboxes or sometimes referred to as On-Premise Archives, these structures are currently supported only through EWS.

  • Not Required: These profiles are already converted or were created using a solution that has replaced EWS. These profiles can be considered safe and are displayed here for completeness.
