GGS Video Conference System is a video conferencing system based on an MCU infrastructure.

GGS is a video conferencing system installed and operated in over 90 public institutions in Turkey. It is an integrated system with SIP gateways that can work without a PC, providing audio and video support from desktop phones.

Thanks to the MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) architecture, audio and video streams are processed centrally and distributed appropriately to participants. This offers a stable conference experience on video-supported desktop phones without requiring high processing power on the client side.

Unified Conference Experience with Phone Infrastructure

GGS receives conference traffic through SIP-based PBX infrastructure. Users can dial a predefined conference number to join an existing conference or follow IVR prompts to create a new one.

Participants to be invited can be dialed by the system from phone numbers. When the participant answers, they are directly added to the conference. This setup allows access to meetings via the existing corporate phone infrastructure without the need for a separate desktop application.

MCU Architecture

GGS uses MCU architecture for multipoint conferences. Central processing of audio and video streams from participants provides the following benefits:

  • Bringing together clients with different capabilities in the same conference
  • Central control of audio and video streams
  • More balanced operation on low-performance video phones
  • Reduced processing and bandwidth needs on client devices
  • Centralized management of active speaker and scene layout

The supported simultaneous participant count is planned based on the server’s CPU, memory, disk, and network capacities.

Flexible Conference Rooms

GGS offers three conference room models for different use scenarios:

Room Type Description
Virtual Dynamic conference rooms created via IVR or web interface, usable for a specified duration. The room number is reused after expiry.
Static Permanent reserved conference rooms configured with invite lists and advanced settings.
Default Specifies the basic conference behavior when no virtual or static room setting exists.

Rules such as participant limit, access PIN, moderator PIN, profile, timeout, and number range can be assigned to rooms. The profile structure allows creating separate conference policies for different teams or use cases.

Live Conference and Participant Management

Authorized users can monitor and manage active conferences via the web interface. Conference-level operations include:

  • Lock or end the conference
  • Remove the last non-moderator participant
  • Remove multiple non-moderator participants
  • Mute or unmute all microphones
  • Take a snapshot of the conference

At the participant level, microphone, camera, listen mode, scene, and activity status can be managed; participants can be removed if needed. Moderator and regular participant permissions can be defined separately.

Video Layout and Conference Profiles

Video layout can automatically adapt as the number of participants changes. Customizable video templates can be used to display the active speaker and place other participants in designated areas.

Conference profiles can standardize settings for different meeting types, including:

  • Video layout and template groups
  • Conference and participant options
  • Moderator permissions
  • IVR call controls triggered by keys
  • Audio, microphone, camera, and scene behaviors

Recording and Conference History

Finished conferences can be viewed from the history screen. Authorized users can:

  • Review start and end times
  • View participants’ join and leave times
  • Distinguish users who are moderators or who terminated the conference
  • Watch or download recordings if available

Since video recordings are stored on the server disk, storage capacity, recording duration, and retention policy should be planned accordingly.

Security and Authorization

GGS supports SIP, TLS, and SRTP protocols for signaling and media security. Role-based authorization in the web interface separates system management, conference management, and standard user functions.

LDAP integration is available for corporate directory authentication. Local user authentication is supported as well. Fail login attempt rate limiting, strong password policies, and one-time verification codes via email support account security.
